One Direction, Ed Sheeran and Katy Perry are among artists supporting the Global Citizen Tickets scheme, which enables fans to be entered into a gig ticket lottery by earning points online through activities including signing petitions, messaging politicians and sharing content.

The scheme is already in place in the US, Australia and New Zealand and is now set to be launched in the UK. Global Citizen aims to help the 1.2bn people worldwide suffering from poverty, and other artists supporting the scheme include McBusted, Bastille and Jessie J.
